Laser Eye Surgery For Glaucoma
Thursday, March 19th, 2009
My friends son (8 years old) has Glaucoma. Is there a cure?
His eye pressures are dangerously high – 45 – and the drops don’t seem to be lowering them. He has had laser surgery but this hasn’t worked either – his eyes healed too quickly for it to work. His mum, and grandfather are completely blind due to Glaucoma. Is there a cure? – or are they close to finding a cure. What else can be done? My friend is so worried that her son may go blind like she did.
She is worried as although it would be unusual to go blind from this condition at such a young age, she lost her sight through it by the age of 12, and her older son (12) is already blind in one eye (from the same condition)
Firstly I am sorry to hear of your friends sons eye disease .Unfortunately Glaucoma still can’t be cured . The next stage for him will be an operation called a trabeculectomy . This is where they make a channel in the eye to aid the fluid reduction. I am waiting to get this operation done as lasering did not work for me .I have suffer red from this problem myself and have done for 20 years. I wish him good luck and as long as he never misses appointments and takes the hospitals advise there is no reason for him to lose his vision.
