You have to stop growing first which means your eyes have to also stop growing. That happens in the early to mid twenties. Doctors will not perform that surgery until then. Good luck.

Has anybody had the Laser Eye Surgery done at Lasik Vision Institute in Rancho Cordova?

I went for a consultation a few weeks ago and the office seemed very clean and everyone was very nice and very thorough with the explanations and so i have an appt for Thursday and im very nervous, has anyone gone here before? i read somethings about scams and bad service but those were mostly in Florida and some other states but i couldn’t find anyone who had it done i this specific location. or any info or experiences about this specific clinic? Please! i am scared now…

Here’s the real story. Way back when laser was first beginning to be used around the world there were two major laser manufacturers in competition with each other. They were fighting over who owned the rights and therefore who got to make all the money over the lasers that were sold. Well, as they fought they both realized it was costing alot so they decided to shake hands and make a deal. What they decided was to build all their lasers with the need for a card (that could only be supplied by the manufacturer to be used ONE time) in order to fire the laser. As I recall, they charge about $250 or so (can’t remember exactly) for the card. Then the two companies split the $250 dollars. So, before your doctor even fires the laser he is already $250 in the hole per eye. Some places have tried to get around this fee by purchasing “gray market” lasers that have come through sources other than these manufacturers.

Now, every time your surgeon fires his laser he uses about $200 worth of gases necessary to fire the laser per eye. Now, the surgeon has to pay for the laser itself. Lasers run about $500,000 or so (unless you lease the laser from the manufacturer and then you have to pay a lease fee for using the laser). Now, the surgeon has to pay for the facility and the staff to provide the best in care. So, start adding it up.

1) $250 for the card
2) $200 for the gas
3) Monthly cost of debt for the laser, facility, and staff.
4) Almost forgot — MALPRACTICE INSURANCE!!!!!!!!

There ya go. It ain’t cheap to provide this type of care. If you want the best in laser and service 1) pre op exam 2) laser vision correction 3) one year of follow up care with free enhancements if needed 4) life time commitment to repeat laser if needed for a lifetime at no charge (this is what I feel is the highest level of care) it CANNOT be cheap. A laser facility simply can’t stay in business if they charge less than about $1400 to $1500 per eye. If you find a place is charging dramatically less than this it means they are taking SOMETHING away from you to get the reduced fee. They do it by decreasing their SERVICES (one place I know of was only including a one day and one week follow up visit) such as shortened followup care or no free enhancements or no life time commitment. Also, be wary of facilities that aggressively promote a VERY low fee. These are bait and switch operations. They just want to get you in the door so they can manipulate you into a higher price. Once you find out exactly what you get for that $299 to $699 per eye, they KNOW that you can be easily manipulated to trade up. If you resist their pressure they will do the laser for the lower fee but if you need ANYTHING other than the laser and a couple of post op visits you will pay through the nose for any future services. It will be like “Don’t call us unless you’re ready to get your bill fold out big time.” Hope this helped.

How to optimize recovery after Laser Surgery?

Hi guys and gals

I am having Laser Surgery in 6 days (more specifically intralase Customvue Lasik procedure)
and wanted to find out from any opticians/ people who have had it done to absolutely optimize good recovery after the surgery. (I have applied to become a Royal Marine Officer you see) and my eyesight is the only thing I need to sort out.

I wear contacts 100% of the time but I have been told to wear my glasses for a week beforehand as contacts change the shape of your cornea.

I will adhere to that rule as of now however yesterday (The very first day I needed to make the transition to glasses) I wore contacts for about 2 hours in the evening as I visited a friends house. Shouldn’t be a problem I’m guessing as long as I don’t wear them again? It’s 6 days away now.

I know I shouldn’t rub my eyes after, try and sleep a lot, apparently you get a face mask to sleep in for a few weeks after etc. any other tips though?

Stick to the doc’s recovery plan as strictly as possible. The post-surgery drops will consist of artificial tears, an antibiotic (prophylactic for infection), and a steroid drop (reduces inflammation). Use the tears at minimum four times a day – with LASIK the corneal nerves are severed, thus decreasing the stimulus for natural tearing. These nerves regenerate in 6-12 months, but expect to used artificial tears for post-surgery dryness for a while.

For about a week or more after surgery, avoid ALL activity that could put your eyes at risk. No swimming, sports, etc. Let your corneas heal as much as possible. Don’t rub your eyes and get some sleep.

Is there a way to correct symptoms of “dry-eye” from Lasik Surgery?

I had LASIK surgery done approximately 6 months ago and have noticed my right eye is sore, irritated and vision is blurry. I’ve looked up the symptoms online and they coinside with the condition of “dry-eye”. I’m wondering if there is a way to correct the soreness and redness in the eye. Another ‘doctor wise’ option is restasis, a prescription drug that for some people (about 10% more than the control group) can produce increased tear production in a matter of months. It’s expensive, it can have severe side effects, and it stops working once you stop taking it, but for a fair percentage it can bring about symptom relief.

Your dry eyes may or may not reduce in severity over time. Unfortunately, this is the risk you take, and I cannot tell you how much it breaks my heart to see another lasik ‘rare exception’ suffering the side effects. Getting another procedure when you have dry is a very bad choice, will likely make your dry eye worse, and no responsible surgeon would do it.

I am going tomorrow to have a Blade Free Lasik procedure performed and the doctor prescribed 2 5mg pills of Valium to be taken an hour before the surgery. which is a good radar/laser detector?

my brother had it done and so did I. I let him be the guinea pig first before I tried it out. His vision was near blind without glasses and we both had extra large pupils which can be a problem.
I researched it called people who had it done first, and then went for it, and i do not wear glasses and this is 4 years, my brother is about 8 years after. If as you age yes you eyes will age to and “sometimes” people need a re-adjustment, which if you bought the correct package is free. My Doctor had the latest equipment and has done over 40, 000 eye surgeries. There is always someone that has problems.
The eye Doctor usually won’t say it’s not a good idea causes he loses his client for life.
I had both knees replaced and am walking, Yet loads of people were saying oh it was the worst thing they went through and what mistake they made.

That type of price is a joke and the ”life time care guarantee amounts to nothing. Two reasons : 1) there is a heap of small print which precludes UL from doing anything if they ‘don’t consider it to be in your best interests’. If you have a copy of the guarantee! then take it to a medical lawyer and ask them just what it amounts to. 2) If you need a vast amount of after care – then surely you are trusting the wrong people with your eyes? Optical Express aren’t likely to be much cheaper.

Large corporate providers are only interested in you until you have paid – you are going to receive a number of calls asking you to book treatment and making ”special” once off offers. Once you have had treatment, no-one will be chasing you for follow-up appointments.
