lasik allegretto
Lasik Eye Surgery: what is better allegretto wavefront guided or Nidek(laser) treatment?

I am getting alsik eye surgery in about 2 weeks. I cant decide whether i should go with the allegretto which is about 600$ difference from the Nidek laser treatment. I dont know anything about the surgery. I’ve done some research but I cant seem to understand still. If you know about these surgeries or have gotten them. Please help me out. Please explain in terms not so hard to understand cuz all those medical & technology terms have confused me. & both are going to be using blade to create the flap.

I have astigmatism.

Hope this helps.

What I want to know is why hasn’t your eye doctor decided what is BEST for your eyes? He or she is the one most qualified to know which surgery is going to work better for you and your individual eyes.

If you are a candidate, wavefront treatment is much better than laser treatment because it can correct more higher order aberrations. Aberrations are the reason that you need glasses or contacts, but there are many different levels of aberrations that are categorized based on the mathematical equation to calculate the aberration (ranging from zero-order to, basically, infinity!).

The more aberrations you can correct (even the higher-order ones), the better you are going to be able to see.

Especially since you have mostly astigmatism that needs to be corrected, I would definitely go with the wavefront (again, if you are a candidate for it).

That’s very interesting that even though you are debating between wavefront or laser to make the actual corrections on your eye, that you are having a blade make the flap. There are MANY more risks to having the blade make the flap because it is human-operated. Having a laser make the flap is much more accurate and actually has much less risk. However, not everyone is a candidate for the laser making the flap, so that may the case in your situation.

Either way, I would consult with your eye doctor if you have already had your pre-operative exam (which I am assuming you did since your surgery is only 2 weeks away). You shouldn’t be the one to make this decision. Your eye doctor should. That’s what they went to school for!!! They should know what is going to be the best option for your eyes with the best possible potential outcome.
