I had Lasik Surgery to correct my vision over 2 years ago. The procedure was called “PRK”. I can see great now. The doctor told me that I would need to use Visine eye drops to refresh my eyes. I thought it would only be for a short while but I have been using the eye drops everyday since the surgery because my eyes get extremely dry. How long should you use eye drops after PRK surgery?

My mother had CK done and unfortunatly it didnt work but she does the same thing, eye drops everyday. If you think about the procedure, a layer of your eyeball was changed permanatly. Depending on how many layers and how deep they went it can be different but it takes your body 7 years to recycle so it may be that long! Hopefully your eyes fully heal faster than that because your surgery was successful.

The cases that are too sensitive to be treated by LASIK i.e. where people have thin or flat corneas are operated under the LASEK. Though LASEK is quite beneficial it has few shortcomings over LASIK. For instance the After Lasek Surgery the patient feels uncomfortable for a long time and in comparison to LASIK, LASEK takes more time to heal.

· Epi-Lasik Surgery is also a form of LASEK where the flap is removed only at the epithelium without the use of any blade or alcohol. In Epi-LASIK the surgeon makes use of a separator, epikeratome that creates an epithelial sheet. Since there is no alcohol used in this entire process, the patient feels less pain in this surgery and heals relatively faster.

Then with the use of a microkeratome he removes the material under the flap. This removal is not done in case ALK is taken up to treat far-sightedness. 1. Photoablation Technique- this requires the use of ultraviolet radiation to remove the eye tissues. Photoablation is basically the step that follows LASIK and LASEK surgeries.

· PRK or Photorefractive Keratectomy is a surgery that mainly treats nearsightedness, mild farsightedness and astigmatism. Here the surgeon makes the use of an excimer laser to remove the tissue from the surface of the cornea. The tissue ablation is taken up to give a new shape and minimize the vision problem. Going under the laser for Lasik… what is your opinion on the procedure?

I am having Lasik Surgery on my eyes tomorrow afternoon so I’m wondering what people think about the procedure. Would you do it knowing the risks of what may happen even though the risks are VERY minimal.

Also, if someone out there has had Lasik in the past I’d love to hear your opinions and or experiences before and after the surgery. Thanks for anyones help.

I would wear my contacts which would get washed out of my eyes, then again could not see the waves when surfing….
Anyway…..I hope your Physician ordered you something like Xanax or Valium pills that you can take 1 hr before your procedure or they might give you a little sedation through the I.V. right before the procedure. I’s your eyes, so our reaction is to move away…..they wedge you pretty good so you don’t move and keep you eyelids open. They put drops on your cornea that will numb everything……Tell yourself…you will be o.k…..
What does not work for patients when they freak out before. And the experience for them is not bad, they just make it bad…..Zone out, and kick back……..

Um. I have never heard of any of the doctors I have worked for geting a kick back for reccomending one contact lens over another. To tell you the truth, most doctors do not make much on the contacts themselves, they make their money on fittings and exams. Most doctors charge more for a rigid lens fitting than a soft lens fitting, so what you are saying does not make sense. After having laser on your cornea, if a doctor tells you that you could get a distortion that is not healthy, what even go there? I see a lot of post lasiks in soft lenses, and I have never seen any rigid ones. I think it is just not a good idea. You could go to another doctor and see what they say, but I bet they tell you the same thing. There are specialty soft lenses that are for drier eyes. See what your doctor reccomends and try the trial lenses that are available.

I have yet to enlist/talk to a recruiter, but a quick question I have is…
Would the military pay for your Lasik surgery before bootcamp?
Or do I have to wear those ugly glasses during bootcamp?

Could I get it in a contract when talking to the recruiter?
Do the Birth Control Goggles fall off easily, and/or they hardly noticeable from the point of view the person is wearing them if anyone have expereince with it?

You can’t get it done through the military until you’ve gone to your first permanent duty station, and even then you have to get command approval (which isn’t really hard, unless you’re about to deploy).
You have to wear the glasses if you need vision correction during basic.
(we called them BCGs, birth control goggles)

Can I have a “lazy eye” and a droopy eyelid (ptosis) at the same time, on the same eye?

I had Lasik Eye Surgery when I was 18. I am now 23 and have noticed that my right eye looks lazy and my eyelid is droopy. I also suffered from stys on my right eye at 18 and had to get them removed before My Lasik eye surgery. My eye really does look lazy. I can notice this in all my pictures. My right eye has also become very bothersome. It feels tired most of the time. Yes, you can have both a lazy eye and ptosis in the same eye concurrently. Like Princeidoc said, it could be a facial nerve palsy or possibly a Horner syndrome…that could or could not be related to your eye procedures.

For the best assessment and options, you would want to see an oculoplastics surgeon…they can fix your ptosis usually with a blepharoplasty to raise the lid. A strabismus surgeon can help assess and give you options on the lazy eye (a lot of the strabismus surgeons actually work through a pediatric ophthalmology office). If findings do point to a nerve palsy, a consult with a neuro-ophthalmologist for both problems might be another option. Check with your optometrist for local specialists in your area to consult.

Check with your optomitrist and see who he or she reccomends. I had it done last week at a TLC Laser center in Chattanooga TN and I would reccomend TLC to anyone who is going to have the proceedure. They work with lots of OD’s nationwide and they have centers nationwide. Check out their website and find a center or optomitrist in your area. I’m a paramedic and i hated to look for my glasses in the middle of the night but I had to worry about seeing details on med vials for dosages. It’s great!!!
