Some surgeons will do lasik surgery on people under 21 with understanding to patient and parents that there is a good possibility of a re treatment if/when their prescription changes. (You would need to sign a special consent since it is not recommended by the FDA.) I have seen it done on children as young as 12.

I'd prefer to let the experts answer this question but until they do: make sure you don't base your choice on price!!! Too many horrible things have happened with lasik surgeries. Briefly, here are a few things I learned recently when exploring lasik surgery on the internet: I believe that the type of lasik surgery that is safer is Intralase because it is safer than the doctor doing it manually. Some of the big chains that brag about doing the most surgeries and experience have the most complaints from the comments on the web. Check out this website I just found that has a lot of information: http://www.allaboutvision.com/visionsurgery/. My ophalmologist said that some really great things are coming down the pike in the next 5 years and he encouraged me to wait a few years to take advantage of that. If you go ahead and do it now, get good references on the web. Find out from the web the good questions to ask when you call that office or talk to that doctor. Get lots and lots of references from that doctor and then call them to ask good questions.
