Calming my nerves for LASIK?

Hello,
I am very interested in getting Lasik Surgery for a variety of reasons. Trouble is, when anything gets near my eye I get nervous, shaky, and try to pull away. I am the only one who can put eye makeup on myself, when someone else tries to put eye makeup on me I twitch and wink so bad they can’t.
I understand that they numb your eye, it isn’t the pain I worry about, it’s watching that blade thing come at my eye!!! I’m worried I will twitch and get so scared that they may refuse to do it.
Question: is it possible to take Vallium or some other nerve calming drug before hand? What would the Dr possibly do to calm my nerves???

Hi, I felt exactly the same concerns you did before I had My Lasik over a year ago. All I can say is make sure you have a completely reputable doctor with lots of experience. I did have a Valium beforehand, but I still twitched and moved (the doctor commented on it.) I didn’t like the experience itself, but I am 100% happy with the results. It wasn’t painful, just very uncomfortable because of the issues I have with something approaching my eye (like you.) I don’t want to sugarcoat it, but I can tell you I would do it again and I am so happy I had it done! (I still don’t like other people to put makeup on me, though!)

I just had my done. They will put anesthesic drops in your eyes. The procedure is very quick. Both eyes done in less than 20 minutes. You will enjoy your new found sight. I wish I had it done at least five years ago. The current technology is very good and very safe now. Just remember to follow your doctor’s instruction after the surgery. They are very important. Also find yourself a good laser surgeon.
