They basically take a layer off your eye, and reshape your cornea back to normal 20/20 vision. It does come with some risks but they are fairly uncommon. It doesn't hurt but a few days after you get it done, your activites are restricted so they can heal. My mom had it done about 9 years ago. She went from -13 to 20/20 and she recently had to get glasses again, but her vision is no where near as bad as it was. It is definately worth it so you don't have to deal with the hassle of contacts and glasses, especially if your vision leaves you blind without them.
