Laser Eye Treatment Astigmatism

Severe astigmatism help?

I’m 42 and have severe astigmatism in my right eye. My left eye has been fine for most my life but the last year or so I have noticed changes. For example when I look at a starry sky all the stars look crescents of light instead of points. I’m wondering if there are any treatments for my eyes. The last time I looked into it the current lasers were not capable of helping me with my right eye. I got a checkup a few months ago here are the measurements for my right eye.

spherical : + 5
Cylindrical – 7.75
Axis 12

He wrote some additional numbers down but I don’t know what they represent:

38.75 X 44.25

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I rarely differ with Footprintz but I have prescribed astigmatic Rx’s up to 11.00. 6.00 is not the limit.

With that Rx in the right eye, but little in the left, such glasses are unlikely to be helpful, but the eye will not get better or worse because of having the Rx or lack of it.

You may benefit from having whatever mild Rx is in the left eye, for when you want best possible vision, with a zero Rx lens in the right, preserving the binocular state you’ve always been happy with.

The difference between the two eyes is such that they are unlikely in the extreme to work together each having its full RX.

If for any reason it is advisable or necessary to give the right eye its full Rx, this will best be done with a contact lens, but that will be a custom fit, in either soft or rigid material, and not one of the more common planned replacement lenses. I have had contacts made for a -8.00 cyl on at least one occasion.
