You might want to wait until you are 16 1/2 years old. Otherwise you still might have to wear contacts.

20/15 vision is reason enough for me. I had the surgery 5 years ago. Scary but worth it.

I think a lot of this depends on your the surgeon/doctor you choose. Most offices do a free consultation that takes about an hour and a half to determine if you are a good candidate. The day of the procedure you are probably there between 1-2 hours (I had it done and I was there an hour and 45.) You get there early so they can do a final check on your eyes, give you eye drops, allow your eyes to dilate, gives you time for Valium to kick in all before the surgery. The actual surgery part is less than 15min. from the time you walk in the room until you walk out. I think I was in the room 10min. TOPS. It's usually about $1500-$2000 an eye. My Dr. charged $4400 but gave discounts to teachers, police officers, fire fighters, etc. and I'm a teacher so it was only $3495. You are awake during the procedure (hence the Valium and you know what's going on the whole time.) You can wear contacts or if you are not a candidate for LASIK they can do PRK which is pretty similar they just don't cut the cornea and it takes longer to heal. It was DEFINITELY worth it and the best money I have ever spent.
