I have astigmatism, can I get Lasik Eye Surgery?

How old do you have to be? What other alternatives are there, besides glasses, contacts, and lasik eye surgery? I’d like something permanant. How long does it take for it to heal? Are there serious risks during the procedure? If I can’t Get Lasik eye surgery done, what’s the problem? Sorry about all the questions, feel free to give me as much information as you can because I’m pretty sure I’m missing something that I’ll want to know later . .

Sure.
Lasik works for most healthy people with healthy eyes who need total corrections less than about 3 or 4 diopters. It has to do with the shape of the eye and the thickness of the cornea.

You really should wait to have the proceedure until you have stopped growing and until your corrective prescriptive lenses have been the same for a year. When you are older, you will probably go 3 or 6 years without changing your prescription. You will not want to risk complications by having a lasik revision frequently while you are young.

The cornea is sliced with a micro thin blade (micro karatome) and flipped up. The lazer contours the freshly exposed inside tissue of the cornea and corrects the vision. The flap is then closed.

The corneal flap makes a bandage and the whole thing heals pretty quickly.

There are risks. Infection, halos in the night vision are the ones that come to mind.

You need to see two or three doctors, in my opinion. The consultations take about an hour. The consultations are free or about 50 dollars.

Lasik will not work if the astigmatism is very severe. My correction was more than 4.75 diopters and would have required PRK.

PRK requires the lazering off the front of the cornea and takes 2-3 weeks of rest and no work to heal.

My brother had PRK and needed 16 days. My sister had lasik and was back to work in three day. Both are happy and generally do not need any glasses.

See the doctors. Google LASIK and read about twenty sites.

God Bless you.

Has any one had any experience with PRK? I’m getting PRK done in the next couple of days and getting a bit nervous. I’m not a good candidate with Lasik. Please let me know your experiences if you can. Thank you!

I had PRK done in both of my eyes back in 2003 and I have no regrets. At the moment I was in the military and I heard all the pros and cons and why the don’t allow marines or special forces to get the lasik, and decided on PRK. I can tell you that the surgery is unconfortable but very short and the first 4 days will not be fun or enjoyable when it comes to light sensitivity (no joke), even watching tv hurts (even with the pain medication)… but it will be over and you’ll never have to worry about that again. Make sure to use the drops (that will leave an awful taste in your mouth) religiously and to wear the sun glasses all the time, even on cloudy days to avoid scaring, which is one of the main concerns after PRK. You’ll probably experience seeing halos around lights, specially at night, but don’t freak out, that goes away with some time. BE PATIENT. After every surgery there is a process… First you’ll be sensitive to the light, then the contact lens will bother you, then you vision will be a little blury, and the taste of the drops, etc… but at the end it will all be worth it!

Oh, and if you can get away with not looking at a computer screen for the first couple of days, that will also help..

Good Luck!

I have heard allot of good thing About Lasik and other procedures. I really want to get something done with my eyes. Any one know if laser surgery would be a good idea for me for me ? I’ve also heard that it better to wait until your late twenties to get it done but thats with a regular condition. Any info on laser eye surgery is very much appreciated. Thanks again Glen

I had Lasik Surgery done last August and it was the best thing i done, i am 24 so the surgeon was a little hesitant to agree to do it until i had researched my immediate family and there prescriptions to determine if my eyes were going to deteriorate any further. They were similar to mine so he was happy to do it. If you live in the UK i would recommend optimax as they were really helpful and didn’t try to force me to commit on the spot and the surgeon who does your consultation is the one who performs the procedure as some other clinics you only get to see the nurses.

Botox, Restylane, Laser Hair Remova; would you say I need it for my job?

I’m 26, and I represent a company. My job is pretty much being a salesman for a big company. I’m always making calls, and going places to do presentations and offer our services.

I look up a to this really successful salesman, I want to be as good as he is.

He’s 33, but he looks like a guy in his early twenties.
He tells me all of this things to do to be successful salesman.

-You need to loom good in your clothes, so you need to be in shape. He spends a lot of time at the gym.
-You always have to look alert, so he’s had lipo on his eyebags, and injects restylane.
-You have to look young, so he has botox, and has had face-peels.
-You point with your fingers, they have to look perfect so he gets manicures, and has had permanent hair removal on his hands.

I’ve had eye-bag lipo, and the hair removal on my hands. I use moisturizers on my face. I haven’t done the other stuff.

Do you think this is really necessary to be a good salesman?

i do think you need to look good, i was a sales person for a long time and appearance and 1st impressions are EVERYTHING ! they are going to remember you as they saw you the 1st time. i wouldnt say you need to get everything, just look good in appearance wear nice clothing, wear it right, make sure your hair is always nice and professional looking and get manicure if you use your hands! you dont have to look young, in fact most people want to be sold to an older person rather younger, they feel older has more intelligence and more respectful and not just looking to make money! good luck with the job tho!

Pregnancy After Lasik?

So I’m scheduled to have Lasik on Friday but I’ve been reading reports of women who have the surgery and then get pregnant later on and have vision regression. I was wondering what the odds of this are and if it’s happened to anyone has it fixed itself when the baby was born?

Hi – Changes to your vision can occur naturally during pregnancy, but it’s rare. If your vision does fluctuate while you are pregnant, it typically returns to normal once your pregnancy is over.

Hope that helps,
I m 18 and have longsightedness, and accommodative esotropia in my right eye.Can surgery correct this?

Basically im 18, i have +5 prescription in my left eye and +5.5 in my right. I suffer from asigmatisms in my eyes, and I have accommodative esotropia in my right eye. Currently I have good vision in glasses, due to there multifocal component. I love wearing contacts but near vision is harder and more blurry. What are my options? What would you do if you were me? Is multifocal contact lenses a good option? Is eye muscle surgery able to correct my accommodative esotropia? Is lasik/laser able to correct my longsightedness? How common is my eye complications? Thankyou

Multifocal contacts are a possibility or using reading glasses over contacts.

Surgery is not a treatment option for accommodative esotropia. Your farsightedness might be correctable with LASIK but LASIK will not change your need for reading glasses. LASIK is a substitute for non multifocal glasses or contacts; if reading is difficult with your contacts it will just as difficult After Lasik.

Why are some people very rude and opinionated when it comes to a woman’s choice to get breast implants?

Seriously, why does anyone care? If you get Lasik Surgery instead of wearing glasses, no one seems to care. If you’ve had three kids and your breasts “wilt” and it makes you uncomfortable, why not fix that too? Seriously, why all the strong opinions? And why does everyone seem to think implants are all about size? What about shape and fullness? What about someone who just wants what pregnancy and breast feeding took from them?
I didn’t realize that this sounded angry…It is hard to portray tone in writing sometimes…I really am not angry…I think it is pretty funny, actually, because I figure somebody’s boobies are their own business…I am really asking why people care so much about other people’s boobies?
GREAT POINT about women who have survived breast cancer!

How do people know about this…since it is private? If you are talking about it to others, you will always get opinions. No different than if you said you were getting a nose job. but these are just opinions, nothing more, nothing less.
If it is a spouse, or a mom, or family member, speak less and do what you want to do. I’m assuming you are an adult and not a child, and adults don’t need other peoples affirmation or input. If they do give input, simply say “Thank you for caring” and drop it. No back and forth arguing…that is playground behavior.
In today’s world, with computers, and all other forms of advice giving, etc. everyone has an opinion, and that is fine. But you don’t need to let it upset you, unless there is a grain of truth in the input. Check out why YOU are getting upset, not them. Then do what you need to do for YOU.

Different strokes for different folks. I had children, and my breasts aren’t what they were, but then neither is the rest of my body, nor any of my friends or relatives. My inner body is fine, and so I leave the outer body to eventually do its own thing, and at the end, give all of my organs to whomever wants them. In the meantime, my best friend just had implants, eye lifts, and she is OK with that. the difference….nothing. we both are fine and happy because we know who we are, and what we want.
Go and do what you want to do, but no apologies. Have a great day.

Average Cost of Lasik?

I’m looking to Get Lasik done in the next year…my vision is fairly decent … – .79 is my worst eye… anyone know what the average price should be around for Custom Lasik? I’m in the NE ohio region if that helps. The people I’ve spoken with have all had terrible vision so I’m wondering if it helps that mine is not.

Thanks!

Some national chains advertise Lasik Prices as low at $299 an eye, but a look at the financial reports of those same chains will find that the average Lasik Cost is about $1,350 per eye. The price of Lasik varies from about $1,400 to $2,900 per eye, depending on the surgeon and technology, according to St. Louis research firm Market Scope.

http://www.usaeyes.org/lasik/faq/lasik-cost-price.htm

I work for a nonprofit Lasik patient advocacy organization. We do not provide Lasik, just Lasik Information and we certify Lasik Doctors‘ patient outcomes.

If your refractive error is – 0.79 then you may want to reconsider having Lasik. The most you can expect from Lasik is the convenience of a reduced need for corrective lenses. This is such a small refractive error that you probably function well without glasses and would not receive much benefit from a reduced need for corrective lenses, but you would be subject to all the risks of elective surgery.

If you are serious about vision correction surgery you should consider PRK, LASEK, or Epi-Lasik as alternatives to Lasik. Also, you may want to consider a NE Ohio Lasik doctor whose patient outcomes have been certified by our organization.

Pls share with me if anyone had done monovision before. Thanks so much…

I have done it 10 years ago and do not regret it for a second.
I do not have the perfect vision but I am happy.

… I’ve never heard that before. I tried looking it up and I found this:

http://www.docshop.com/2006/07/20/hastings

From reading this I don’t really think it matters. Since everyone does have different shaped and size of eyes, I don’t think it matters if you’re asian.

Best way to look up Lasik Doctors?

I would be interested in getting lasik. I would like the laser treatment as opposed to the knife. I have -5.50 prescription if that matters. I am interested in getting a payment plan set up. I live in PA. Would like to pay $30 or less a month on a payment plan. I saw a billboard stating only $25 a month, but I dont remember the provider. (Yes, I know the payments would be dragged out, thats okay…)

I can’t find a good source for you. However, I was told that doctors can literally get a “certificate” where they are taught to use lasik in a weekend. The program I heard did not encourage using those. Instead, it said to find someone who has a fellowship in this type of surgery, which I believe said meant a year or more in training of dong this type of surgery.

I would suggest that you go to the reference section of your library, and look through a book called “America’s Top Doctors” and start there.

Eye corrective surgery (Lasik, Lasek, PRK)?

I have several questions about it. First of all i did some looking around and i think my eye sight is about 20/350 or so. This is based off the prescription of my contacts. can anyone confirm or correct it?
This is how it looks on the package

8.6/14.4
-3.75 -1.75 x030

I am near sighted and have an astigmatism

My second question is what is the safest type of surgery out there. I would rather do a surgery where it would take longer to heal/more pain present and have my eyes in better health that could be corrected if need be. And i am not really aiming for 20/20, more along the lines of 20/40. I keep hearing about different stuff like this new no-touch lasek or something.

I wouldn’t mind still having to wear glasses for reading. Its just what i do in the rest of my day that would make no glasses alot more convenient.

Any help is appreciated

I had Lasik About a month ago and very happy with it. Since everybody’s eyes are different, you should go for a free consultation or two. They will look at your eyes and tell you what methods are available to you, what is the cost and what you can except in the way of results. The place I went to guaranteed me 20/20 vision or my money back

Bad Glare & Starbursting(Non Lasik Related)?

I am suffering from severe glare, starbursting, and halos at night. I saw several eye doctors and they checked for glacoma, cateracts, eye dieses, etc and found nothing. They did state that my pupils are very large and that could be the problem. Then why is it, if I sqint or look through a pinhole the glare issues are reduced greatly. They gave me those yellow nighttime driving glasses and they do not correct the problem. It annoys me so much when I watch TV at night because the TV will have glare coming off of it. To fix that, I put 4 lamps with 42 watt, 150 watt equivalent compact fluorescent bulbs in all 4 corners of the room, just to make the room evenly lit so I don’t see starbursting and glare coming off the TV. What is wrong with my eyes, I am 20 years old and it has been like this for about 2 years.

when you squint or look through a pinhole, the amount of light entering the eye is reduced, thereby reducing the chance for glare/star-bursting. If there is nothing physically wrong, i.e., cataract, spherical abberation, etc., and you simply have a large pupil, there is nothing you can do to make it go away. You can wear a prosthetic contact lens with a black backing and smaller pupil aperture. This reduces the glare for a patient of mine who has no iris at all to block the light. Good luck to you.

What is the best place to have it performed?

Well, I haven’t had it myself personally, but a lot of friends swear by it, and are glad that they got it. My brother got it India through India Health Guru Consultants, and he said it was great Lasik eye surgery helped millions of people to be able to see, without the help of contacts and glasses. It will help you too, but make sure you get the right doctor for the procedure. After the surgery, one feels mild discomfort or pain for a couple of days. The procedure itself is not painful because they give you anaesthetic drops to numb the eye. For the first week, one may have sensitivity to light as blurry vision and dry eyes. All these side effects disappear within a few days and. The process is simple, safe and fast. They are making big improvements in this field, so it’s probably worth it if you can afford it and don’t need to use your eyes for a few days
did any of you ever have the corticosteriod injection in the eye for diabetic retinopathy?

dear all, my mother has diabetes for 15 years now. recently we got to know about her diabetes retinopathy and its fast deteriorating. the doctors have offered laser treatment and the corticosteroid injection. as much as i have read online it seems that the corticosteroid treatment hardly has any information or studies done. i was wondering :
if any of you have undergone the steroid treatment,
how long ago did u have it,
how frequently did u have to repeat it,
and did u develop any cataract and/or glaucoma cos of it?

any of you had the laser treatment done, then please tell me about your experience from that. how r u doing now? what r the side effects or long term effects? if someone gets worse since the laser treatment what options r there then? the more details you have the better for me. please please let me know as much as you can. we r so worried for her. we need to come to a solution ASAP. thank you all for your answers and time.

god bless you all with good health.

I had the laser treatments many years ago and have had no problems since. I havent heard of the treatment of which you speak. Email if you have any questions. Good luck to your Mom..I know how scary this is for all of you.

about 1 1/2 yrs ago i noticed that my right eye was bigger than my left eye so i went to the family doctor and i got checked out by the ophtalmologist. He didn’t find anything out of ordinary so i “forgot” about it. 3 months ago i had lasik and everything went perfect except for one little thing i see a little double with my right eye and i have intense pain.. and it also looks phused forward.

Thyroid tests =normal
CT Scan = today at 1:30pm

so what could be the reason behind this?
what are some possibilities?

Time to go back to the ophthalmologist. What you are experiencing is not a little thing, nor did the lasik go perfectly.

Intense pain and pushed forward and seeing a little double?

Get thee to the doctor!

eye strain?

blindness?

laser surgery?

games?

too much fb and games?

waste of time….prolly

See your health care provider as soon as possible (ophthalmologist). The strain of prolonged staring at a computer monitor can cause those blood vessels to become engorged, creating the illusion the new ones have appeared. Your eyes may also feel dry and itchy. Resting, drinking plenty of water, and reducing eyestrain should resolve the problem. Here’s how to help prevent the problem from recurring:

Give your eyes regular breaks. And try to blink frequently, to distribute moisture to your corneas.
Reduce glare by adjusting the surrounding light and the screen contrast or by using a screen filter. Keep the top of your Monitor at or just below eye level, and keep your eyes at the same distance from the screen as you would from a book.

Be sure that eyeglasses or contacts fit well and are the correct prescription.

Consider buying either a liquid-crystal-display (LCD) monitor or a regular monitor with a high “refresh rate,” both of which ease eyestrain by flickering less than other monitors. Sorry, if I didn’t answer all your questions. I hope this helps you. And good luck.

Breast augmentation before wedding…?

I’ve been wanting to get a breast enlargement for years and years. Recently I’ve spent a lot of money on lasik and on fixing my car but I still want to try to get it done soon. If I get enough money, how long before my wedding would be a good time? Does it need to be 6 months or more before so I’m comfortable and healed or is healing fairly quick? I just want to be full speed for our great honeymoon in Hawaii!!

I’d recommend at least 6 months worth of recovery time. Even if you heal quickly and are feeling great, scars (if they’re visible) can take time to fade, and sometimes things go wrong (not to freak you out or anything…but crap DOES happen on occasion) and you would want a cushion of time in the event that something needs corrected or repaired. As well, the surgery site may be tender for quite some time, so you would want an adequate amount of time to heal COMPLETELY (inside and out) before smashing yourself into a wedding gown and romping around on the beaches and whatever.

How can I improve my eyesight?

I recently got my glasses and I have myopia (near sightedness). My power is really small just about -0.25 and the doctor suggested me to wear glasses whenever I copy notes from board in class. He said it because I couldnt read (focus) things on the board immediately after looking at my notebook . Myopia runs in the family (except my mom who is far-sighted). The doc told me that the power will incease but I dont want it to because wearing glasses irritates my nose. Any suggestions will be welcomed. (please dont tell extreme procedures like lasik and stuff)

Laser Lasik Eye Surgery long term effects?

I have been thinking about going for Laser Eye Surgery, my vision is like 4 and 4.50. I used to wear contacts all the time, until my eyes got very dry and now I can’t even wear a contact in my right eye – it hurts when I am taking it out and the contact stuck to my eye. I would like to know if there are any long term bad effects after Laser eye surgery, e.g. will my vision worsen in the future as I’m now only 24, and what happens if I suffer cataracts when I’m old? Am I still able to have another eye surgery to fix that problem? Also, has anyone had such a problem with contacts being stuck to the eye and being very painful to remove?? I mentioned it to my optometrist and she said my right eye was severely dry. But even after resting my eyes by not wearing contacts & wearing only glasses for a few months, when I tried wearing my contacts again, I could hardly wear it in my right eye for more than 1 hr.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik Surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

How long After Lasik should I not have blurred vision?

I had Lasik Surgery 2 days ago and I am seeing much better. However it is not a good as it was with contacts. My perscription was -9 and I had intralace. I can still see well but I mainly notice it when I am driving. I don’t seem to see the highway signs as fast as I usually did. Will it get better?

It takes a few weeks. I had mine in June and sometimes if I’m really tired my vision is still kind of blurry. I would say it took 4-6 weeks though before I could see as well as I could with my glasses. You’ll be so glad you did it very soon!!

Improve eye sight naturally?

Hi, I want to go into the Air Force and become a fighter pilot. Everyone has heard fighter pilots have to have 20/20 vision. However, after studies done by the Air Force a few years ago they found that After Lasik and PRK surgery pilots are in no risk at damage to their eyes due to high G forces due to ejections and flights and thus allow flight seeking students at ROTC or Academy to get surgery free of charge and compete for a pilot slot if it was done correctly and by a military doctor. My question is though can I improve my eye sight naturally using excercises or anything to help improve my eye sight so when I apply for the surgery I am a more acceptable canidate or maybe even loose contacts for good and not need surgery at all?

Nope, not possible naturally. The only people who say it is possible are either A)trying to sell you something, B)scientologists, or C)Those two are about the same thing.

(by the way, I went to USAFA. Best of luck to you for getting in! It’s an awesome place)

I am really looking for the united states marine corps, i ship off to bootcamp, and one of the first thing I want to get done is lasik, I don’t mind waiting up for 1 year, but How do i go about getting this done? what procedures do i need to take Step 1 – 10. please help me out if you have gotten eye surgery before while serving in the united states marine corps?

1. Get to the fleet, don’t do it while while training or going to your school….you don’t want to miss any time.
2. Go to medical, get a referral.
3. Go to hospitol, talk to them about, schedule Lasik
4. Get Lasik
5. No more “Port Holes”.
6. Get laid.
7. Repeat 6 over and over and….

Edit: To the question above mine, yes, when you sign up for the Marine Corps you sign up for 4 years active, four years IRR….I’ve seen it happen…so yeah…theres a “chance”.

120 mg lasik all at one time, bad for your liver?

any docs or nurses who could answer my question i would much appreciate it.
a friend of mine does this every morning. i tell him he is killing his liver.
am i wrong?

thank you in advance.
well, the thing is he does not take 40mg 3 times a day like he’s supposed to, but all at one time in the morning. i thought he was overdosing somehow.
thank you guys. i’ll let the community choose the best answer since they are both good. sincerely.

The daily max dose for Lasix is 600mg per day so your friend should be fine. I assume his doctor has prescribed this dose.Usually with a dose as high as 120 mg it would be divided and taken twice a day but his doc may not have prescribed it that way.

It depends on where you live. In the UK its 18 years old. But as for anywhere else I don’t know. Best look it up on the internet. Try Optical Express’s website. Good luck.

I’ve always been told that other than a slower healing time, its safe to get, but there’s a good chance it won’t hold as diabetics eyes go down hill over time. You should ask your doctor. Your regular endo, not the doctor that would do the surgery. They’ll tell you yes because they want the money.

Edit: dingding… I wish I had a doctor like the one that you went to to have the lasik done. I know endo’s don’t do lasik. I’ve had type 1 for almost 25 years also. But when lasik became more easily available, I asked about it. I asked an eye surgeon about it and he said yes, but when I mentioned it to my endo and my opthmologist they both said yes, but that it probablly won’t hold. I’m glad you’re have luck with your’s though. Continued luck.

So I had My Lasik eye surgery… And the results were better than expected?

So I had Lasik Intralase CustomVue wavefront 2 days ago.

My eyes are starting to heal and almost by the hour my eyes have been improving dramatically.

I had a post day check up where they said my eyes will continue to get sharper over the next week.

However I did an eye test and my eyes are 20/10 (in both eyes).
This is twice as good as 20/20 and almost at the limit of human possibility for good vision. I am obviously tremendously happy about this

I did a lot of research into Laser Eye Surgery and apparently not everyone (but most people) get 20/20.
To get 20/15 happens but not heard of very often. But to get 20/10… I have not heard of any reported cases except a couple of that correction.

How rare is it?

Daje needs to keep his pants on. She only had the surgery two days ago, which means that the full results are as yet to be seen.

Lasik Surgery has an immediate effect of overcorrection, but in time (a few weeks), the eye should settle into is true prescription, which will be a bit softer.

In time, your vision will become a little less crisp-but it will still be lightyears better than you were before glasses.

That being said, the long-term effects also remain to be seen. Some people’s vision changes steadily throughout their lives, and others have a bell curve shape. Most doctors advise that you only Get Lasik surgery done once your prescription stays relatively static for 2 years. I’m assuming that your needed correction wasn’t terrible, otherwise they wouldn’t have done it on someone so young. Don’t let some of the other answers scare you-while I can’t have my surgery due to thin corneas, I have several friends who had it while still in high school.

10 years later, they are still glasses-free. And if they need some mild correction in a few years, so what? At least they had their twenties, right?

I need help getting a dentist to help fix my dad’s teeth pro bono, please?

My dad lives in South Africa and cannot afford to go to the dentist and he has been complaining about his teeth for a few years and now it is at the point where they are wearing away to nothing. I am doing my best to help him sort out whatever he needs to be done for example I will be sending for him within the year and when he is here I will take him to have the Lasik Surgery, and was also going to take him to have his teeth fixed and after researching all dentist and the procedures it is too costly for me and it breaks my heart that I can’t do for him what he really needs for his everyday life, whereas he has always done for things for me all my life without teeling me he can’t afford it or any other excuse, he is the best dad, he is my just the best I would not trade him for a million dollars, he is literally the best dad in the world. SO I would really appreciate it if there is anyone out there that can or is willing kto help us please. By the way I live in Baytown, Texas.

I really don’t know anywhere where your dad can get dental work pro bono but you can get it very cheap if there is a dental college or school in your area. Students in their final year work on those who need it and have limited means to pay. It provides the students with experience and helps the patient get care they otherwise could not attain. Don’t worry! It is all safe and the students are supervised by totally trained dentists. I am not familiar with Baytown but if you are close to a major city such as Houstin, Austin, etc., there should be a dental school in the area. Please ask your dentist as he would know. He might also know where your dad could get the work done if there is no dental school in your area.

Can someone give me information on eye surgery?

I am considering laser/Lasik Eye Surgery. I would like information on the average costs, potential risks and rate of such risks, age for it to be done. Duration for recovery. and any other information you may feel is pertinent in making such a decision.

Wow, I hope you read up on people’s successful Lasik Procedures before making a decision. Yes, things can go horribly wrong.. but it’s a surgery. There are risks with every surgery.

Dry eye may be one of the more common side effects, but every patient does not experience it. That is entirely false! I’ve had the surgery done on both of my eyes and have no problems whatsoever.

Remember, people who are not happy with their outcome are always going to speak louder than those who are.

My surgery was $2100 per eye. The best thing to do would be to schedule a consultation, they are free! There you will be able to speak with a doctor and have your eyes examined.
The surgery itself is completely painless. Afterwards my eyes burned really badly(as soon as the anesthetic began to wear off). I sure was thankful for the painkillers they gave me. The pain in my eyes lasted for about 6 hours and then I felt ok enough to open them and was not in too much discomfort except for the world being really bright! Full recovery, to where I didn’t have to wear eye shields to sleep and be so cautious, was about a week. They do say to wait a month for things like swimming, rubbing your eyes, etc. It’s kinda up to your own judgement.. I didn’t dare rub my eyes at all for about 2 months.
The risks have already been mentioned. I would say that you should treat this as something that you feel is important enough to have done, no matter what the outcome. I was ready to accept any and all side effects.. Too many people are probably doing this as a convenience; They already live perfectly happy lives with glasses or contacts.. and are not fully understanding the risks.

Good luck with your decision.

How clearly should I be seeing 5 days post-Lasik Surgery?

I am beginning to become concerned, although my surgeon says I’m doing fine. I had major astigmatism which I was told could not be completely corrected. Things are now generally blurry EXCEPT they are pretty clear when wearing sunglasses in daylight. Is this normal? When does everything finally fall into place? When should I push the “panic” button that this hasn’t worked? Thanks!

If sunglasses help then it is probably just glare that is causing your blurred vision. You’ve just had part of your cornea sliced off with a laser, it will be swollen and trying to heal itself. The swelling will cause light to scatter as it enters your eye making your vision blurred. If you wear sunglasses less light gets into your eye so it scatters less.
I don’t know what the healing rate for you will be, everyone heals at different rates. Just keep going to your aftercare appointments and just keep asking the doctor. A good clinic will only have qualified doctors or opticians doing your after-cares. I do know of some clinics that use non-qualified retail staff to do it! Ask who you are seeing, if they are not qualified then alarm bells should be ringing!!

What does it take to become a pilot in the U.S. Air Force?

I heard that you cannot have any Lasik Vision Correction, but I had vision correction done as a birthday gift before I thought about joining the Air Force when I turned 18. I now have 15/20 vision with the corrective surgery for two years with no side-effects or change in vision. Will this hurt my chances of becoming a pilot? What other criteria does the Air Force also look at when selecting pilots?
I heard that you cannot have any LASIK vision correction, but I had vision correction done as a birthday gift before I thought about joining the Air Force when I turned 18. I now have 15/20 vision with the corrective surgery for two years with no side-effects or change in vision. Will this hurt my chances of becoming a pilot? What other criteria does the Air Force also look at when selecting pilots?

also, I am a junior in college, I’ve done research, and I’m not 18. I’m just looking for more information.

I’m a cadet at the Air Force Academy, and while I am not opting to go the pilot route, a number of my good friends are and so I know a bit of it. The concern was that there existed still small incision in the eye that made it more likely to have issues at higher g-forces. This stipulation has recently changed however, and while cadets at the Academy still get PRK (which is the preferred method for vision correction) LASIK is now accepted, though from what I can tell certain methods of it are preferred (see source below). As for other criteria, I can only speak to the selection criteria coming from the Academy which gets somewhere around half or more of the Air Force’s pilot slots. There it is a combination of mostly academics, but also military and physical aptitude come into play. Pretty much everyone at the Academy who wants to be a pilot will get the opportunity though. Hard part is getting in there to start. Other main option is ROTC, where the odds of getting a pilot slot are not nearly as good, but I can’t really comment on their criteria for selecting pilots as much since I’m not involved with that method of commissioning.

Lasik Eye Surgery, who did it?

I have been thinking for well over 2 years now About Lasik eye surgery. I am scared of any type of surgery (as most people are!) and I cannot manage pain so well. I live in Canada (if that makes any change). I have been told by a few people that it doesn’t hurt, only puts pressure on the eye for less than 10 minutes. Is it true? What are the outcome (compared to seeing with glasses)? Will it improve my vision, will it be the same as glasses, or will it be worst than having my glasses?… How about night vision? Could they mess it up, and then I go blind? There are so many things I want to see in my life, loosing my vision would be one of the worst thing happening to me. How was your experience while doing Lasik eye surgery? Thank you so much.

I recommend that you go for a consultation with a LASIK surgeon. I know you live in Canada, so Im not sure if it may be different, but most LASIK surgeons in the US will give a free consultation to make sure that you are a good candidate. I had this procedure done last year and it has been the best thing I have ever done for my self. I do recommend that you visit more than one LASIK surgeon for an opinion.

No matter what you do, if you decide to Get Lasik, be sure to get Intralase Lasik. This is the top of the line LASIK and it is used withOUT a blade. There is not a knife involved. Most complications come from procedures that use the blade, regular LASIK.

I was scared too, but I did my research and I chose a good surgeon. I was nearsighted (-7 in both eyes with astigmatism) and now I see 20/20. The ONLY side effect I had was for about three months, some automobile headlights were too bright for my eyes. Not all of them, just some. Believe me, if you are good candidate, go for it. I had my surgery done at 7:30 at night and I was up the next morning and drove into the city by myself for my followup appointment the next morning at 9:00 a.m.

Bottom Line: Be sure to do your research, go for more than one opinion consultation and go with your gut when choosing your reputable surgeon.

Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik Surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India.

How do flex spending account administrators define a dependent?

My college age son, just turned 19, withdrew from full time college a couple of weeks ago. Since he turned 19, I know that he’s not going to be covered under our health insurance now, but I can’t find any definition of what the Flex Spending people call a dependent, when it comes to medical expenses.

Add to this that I found out totally unexpectedly that my job had doubled the amount that they were supposed to take out (long story), and now I suddenly have $4000 that needs spent by the end of the year. If the son is covered as a dependent by the IRS, does that mean I can use that money on him? He wants Lasik Surgery, and it might be a way to do it.

Anyone know– do flex spending people define it by the tax law, or by rules similar to insurance companies?
Yes, he was enrolled and finished the spring semester.

The IRS defines dependents for the FSA.

The FSA can still be used to cover dependents as long as they are your dependent on your tax return. Even if your health insurance won’t cover them.

So that lasick is a good idea.

It’s ALSO a good idea, to go to CVS, and buy tons of bandaids, ointments, and other OTC stuff to hit the $4K if the lasick isn’t that high.

Laser Eye Surgery???

I had an appoinment this weekend to see if I was suitable for laser eye surgery, and I am. with Optical Express.

The price given was quite expensive so I phone Optimax and they quote higher but then offer a £400 recudtion as they has a policy to price beat any other quote.

What I want to know are all Laser eye clincs about the same in quality so it is better to find a ‘bargin’ or should I stick to expensive = quality.

Really not sure what is best to do. Please help???

I had laser surgery a few years ago, it has given me a new lease of life!

I paid £1200 then but the same opticians are doing it for £399 per eye now. Optical express Newcastle.

This price is for Lasik and Lasek surgery.

All clinics have to be excellent, so don`t worry if one is cheaper, the results will be the same.

Before care and after care was really good also.

I would though get some prescription pain relief from your doc before you have it done.

It`s not as simple and pain free as the adverts would suggest.

Good luck, swimming and I could see was the best!!!!

Tips on How to Find the Right Doctor for Lasik Surgery

Lasik Eye Surgery is only as good as the doctor who performs it, even with all the new medical techniques and tools that have evolved over the past few years. A good Lasik surgeon can restore your vision to crystal clarity; an inexperienced or poor one can inflict permanent damage upon your eyes. Here are some tips on how to find the right doctor for Lasik surgery.

First, ask your eye doctor whom he or she would recommend. Get several names. Ask him or her to prioritize in terms of preference. You can also look at the myriad advertisements for Lasik Doctors in your area, but don’t take their claims at face value – you’ll still need to do the legwork with them as far as research. Simply use this as a tool to gather good name candidates.

A Lasik Checklist

You’ll have to ask each professional a checklist of questions. First, what kind of surgery would they recommend for your eye, and how many of those procedures have they actually performed in their career? And more importantly, how many procedures have they performed with exactly the same equipment that they would recommend for your eyes? Many doctors have had a lot of experience with laser procedures, but not necessarily Lasik. The last thing you would want to be as a patient is a guinea pig for new or unproven equipment, whether it’s with laser or microkeratome blade.

Does the doctor seem to “push” a certain procedure over another, or not ask a lot of questions about your overall health and your goals for your vision? Beware the facility that might have financial incentives for using one procedure over another.

Next, does this medical professional FDA approved use the equipment? There are plenty of people who might advertise the newest advances in Lasik Equipment, but it may in fact not have cleared government approval hurdles, and again, you do not want to be a guinea pig with something as important as your eyes.

Is the doctor informative? He or she should spend as much time with you as you need, in order to answer your questions walk you through what happens with the technique he or she uses. If the doctor is continually late for appointments, or seems rushed, you may want to consider whether this is someone who is going to give you the personal and unique attention you need. Although Lasik may be very routine to many doctors, he or she should not make you feel as though they are not taking your needs seriously, because after all, everyone’s eyes are different.

Educate Yourself Before Undergoing Lasik

Educate yourself on what your doctor candidate requires for before-care, such as what kinds of relaxants or anesthesia he or she prefers to use. A good doctor will make sure you are in good overall health, and not allergic or adverse to certain medications.

An important question to consider: what kind of long-term care does the medical professional and his or her practice provide? Will they make themselves available to follow-up care and appointments, or are they too busy to provide you with this information? It is imperative to have follow-up care to make sure your eyes have healed properly, and that the correct vision goal has been attained. Most Lasik professionals will provide this as a matter-of-course, but if your candidate seems unconcerned about being available should you have any problems after the surgery, you should probably consider looking elsewhere.

About the Author

Last, ask your doctor candidates if he or she will provide you with references from Lasik patients he or she has performed Laser Eye Surgery on in the past. Call them! And be sure to ask not just whether their vision goals were attained, but were they comfortable with the surgeon, and the entire Lasik surgery in general.

Has anyone else ever had pain like this?

I wore hard contact lenses from age 13-28. That was before they had “gas permeable” lenses. I had trouble with my left eye from the beginning. My opthamologist told me my eyes were very dry, and to try artificial tears. That helped somewhat. By the time I was 28 I couldn’t stand to wear the contacts anymore, because the pain in my left eye felt like there a hot branding iron on my eyeball. When I popped the lens out it was fine. Then a different opthamologist told me a was a pefect candidate for “Radial Keratotomy.” That was before “Lasik.” Ever since the day I had the RK, I have the same pain in my left eye. After seeing over 60 doctors around the country, they all agreed that drug therapy was the only thing that could help me. So I’ve been on morphine and codeine for over 20 years. The doctors call it “optic neuralgia.” Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? Thank you.

You need to see your physician to clarify this diagnosis. There are a few things that can cause this. I am not a doctor, but treating it with morphine and codeine seems rather radical to me. In this day and age there should alternative pain relief choices. Have you seen a specialist whose specialty is this type of problem?
Good luck

why is it that even though his vision is essentially perfect he has told me that he experiences pain in his eyes? can anyone/anybody please answer this enigma? why perfect vision but pain in eyes? rsvp. thank you.

I got PRK surgery last summer and have not had any problems. It took me a long time to get up the nerves to get the surgery performed, now I am glad I did. I spent several visits at the clinic simply asking quetions about how the surgery work (Lasik Vs Prk) and how it would affect me. My South Dakota eye doctor was very comforting. Try visiting your local California laser vision clinic and make an appointment for a consultation. http://www.locallaservisioncenters.com/California-Laser-Vision-Correction.html

What are the types of laser eye surgery?
This type of surgery involves a longer recovery time but is less dangerous. LASIK, or laser aided sub-epithelial keratomileusis, is a technique where the epithelium is removed and replaced.

How long does it take to get laser eye surgery done?
the particular procedure is nearly one to one and a half mins. Patients will need to be in the surgery room for roughly 15 mins for pre- and post-surgical preparations.

what is the recovery time for laser eye surgery?
Patients experience immediate lucidity with LASIK and can start standard activities after 24 hours. For patients who endure PRK, recovery time is anywhere from some days to even weeks. How permanent is laser eye surgery?

Changes made to the cornea remain because the cornea is an extraordinarily stable tissue. Cases of regression of vision are uncommon and can be corrected with further surgery.

Can complications arise with laser eye surgery?

Yes. Complications and complications can occur with both LASIK and PRK. Some of the side effects are dry eyes, under- or over-correction, radiance around things under light, spooks or double vision, growth under the epithelial flap, and light sensitivity.
Are there any restrictions on activities after having surgery?
normal activities can mostly be resumed after 24 to 48 hours after surgery.
